US Open champion Angel Cabrera fired a sizzling 63 to lead the Barclays Singapore Open Friday, as defending champion Adam Scott ominously made his charge up the leaderboard.

But world number four Ernie Els had a horror day and is in danger of missing the cut. His fate will be decided on Saturday with 37 players unable to finish the round because of bad light.

Cabrera was 8-under par for the day and the tournament following hasty overnight repairs to his driver after the head worked its way loose on Thursday.

The Argentine leads by two strokes from American Jin Park who shot a 70 to go with his opening round 66.

Australian world number four Scott, who is gunning for a third consecutive Singapore victory, holed four birdies on the back nine to sit in third on five under.

England''s Lee Westwood, who has six top-10 finishes in his last seven events, carded a 67 to be joint fourth with little-known Australian Gavin Flint.

World number two Phil Mickelson struggled to match his exploits on day one and ended on two under, six behind Cabrera in a group that also includes K.J. Choi and Vijay Singh.

Cabrera described his performance as one of the best rounds of his career.

"I really hit the ball very well off the tee and made everything I needed to make. That was the difference today," he said.
