Two days after claiming his 13th major championship, Tiger Woods shifted gears to his other day job and unveiled plans for his first course design in the United States.

During a press conference Aug. 14 at The Cliffs Valley, fittingly located 10 miles west of a tiny hamlet called Tigerville, S.C., Woods provided details of his residential project – The Cliffs at High Carolina. The 3,000-acre community will sit 4,000 feet in the Blue Ridge Mountains just east of Asheville, N.C. It will be the eighth community in The Cliffs’ collection of private residential developments.

“This piece of property is absolutely amazing,” said Woods, referring to the location targeted for his walking-only course. “I’ve said it before, you can’t mess this up. Even an idiot can’t mess this up, and I think I’m a little bit above that.”

Woods started Tiger Woods Design in November, and it quickly signed on to develop Al Ruwaya, in Dubai, for a reported $25 million. That course is scheduled for completion in 2009. No firm development timetable has been established for his North Carolina design, and financial details of the project were not disclosed.

A spokesperson for The Cliffs said the goal is to have the project open sometime in 2010. The 16-year-old residential complex already has five courses in operation and two others in development.
