ORLANDO -- If the details can be worked out, Arnold Palmer will become the celebrity host of the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic in 2009 to celebrate the event''s 50th year.

Palmer won the first tournament in 1960 and won the last of his 62 PGA Tour titles there in 1973. Three of the four courses used in the rotation for the tournament staged in Palm Desert, Calif., were designed by Palmer''s company. This is the 30th year of Palmer''s tournament at the Bay Hill Club in Orlando, being played this week and which last year was renamed the Arnold Palmer Invitational. But his role in California would be more ceremonial.
