Karrie Webb has seen the LPGA lose stars in the past, so she knows someone will fill the void created by Annika Sorenstam, who announced Tuesday she would retire at the end of the season.

"When I first came on tour, we were losing Nancy Lopez, Pat Bradley and Patty Sheehan," said Webb, 34. "There were plenty of players who stepped up."

Webb, along with Sorenstam and Lorena Ochoa, begins play Thursday at the Sybase Classic in Clifton, N.J.

Webb didn''t include herself, but she and Sorenstam filled the voids that were left when one-by-one the LPGA lost a group of Hall of Fame players from the 1980s. Webb''s success in 1999 and 2000, when she won 13 tournaments, was one of the motivating factors in Sorenstam''s Hall of Fame career.
